Sonar unifies the product name based on SonarQube, which helps improve the developer experience, as well as code quality and security on-premises, in the cloud, or on the IDE side

Sonar, a leading provider of code quality and security solutions, has announced that it will simplify the naming of its existing products around SonarQube.

As Sonar’s flagship brand, SonarQube represents the company’s core mission: to improve the quality and security of all code while providing a better developer experience. These changes are specific to Sonar’s brand only – all products will retain their original powerful features, but will now use a single brand name.

New product nomenclature includes:
  • SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube)

  • SonarQube Cloud (formerly SonarCloud)

  • SonarQube for IDE (formerly SonarLint)

  • SonarQube Community Build (formerly SonarQube Community Edition)

The new product naming is designed to simplify Sonar’s brand experience and improve brand consistency. Sonar’s vision has long been to provide customers with a consistent brand experience, whether they’re using on-premise management or cloud solutions.
Sonar’s offerings will remain the same, continuing to provide trusted and powerful solutions to 7 million+ developers and 400,000+ organizations worldwide.

“The world of software development is rapidly shifting, creating a higher need to verify that code meets quality and security requirements, especially with the adoption of AI tools. Our decision to simplify the product brand experience based on SonarQube is a testament to SonarQube’s strength and commitment to providing development teams around the world with the tools they need to ensure quality, security, and continuous improvement of all code, whether it’s AI-generated code or developer-written code.” “

– Tariq Shaukat, CEO of Sonar

The consistent use of the SonarQube name also underscores Sonar’s commitment to evolving as developer needs change and the software landscape evolves. In 2018, Sonar launched SonarCloud, now known as SonarQube Cloud, to create a fully managed Sonar experience that matches the SonarQube Server Edition. Earlier this year, SonarQube Cloud launched its Enterprise and Team plans, and the new naming marks the fulfillment of that vision.
